Great Spirit Canoes are individually handcrafted in Oromocto, New Brunswick, Canada. All Great Spirit Canoes are built on the original Chestnut Factory molds and are manufactured with the same demanding detail and quality that began in 1897 when Harry and Will Chestnut starting making canoes in the back of their father’s hardware store.
Great Spirit Canoe construction, using the old tradition of stretching the canvas over the precision fitted wood frame, produces a superb handling craft which can be propelled through the water by either the traditional paddle or modern outboard power.
All Great Spirit Canoes are completely hand crafted “one at a time” on the Oromocto First Nation. All materials used are hand picked from the finest grades of eastern white cedar, oak and ash. Our facility, in Oromocto, produces a variety of canoe models ranging from the lightweight 15’ “Bob Special” all the way up to the workhorse 26’ Ogilvy.
